AFTER LANG SHINING A.K.A. GIUSEPPE CASTIGLIONE (ITALIAN 1688-1768) A CHINESE WATERCOLOR ON PAPER SCROLL PAINTING, "Three Frolicking Horses," LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY,

painted in colors as three horses galloping amidst grasses on the banks of a meandering stream beneath the branches of an ancient shade tree, opposite a lone horse gazing from across the water behind an autumnal red leaf shrub, lower left Lang Shining six character black ink inscription over a red seal stamp, top center with large square apocryphal red Qianlong seal, height: 31 3/4", width: 16 3/4"; mounted within a pale peach silk border woven with circular dragon shields amongst scrolling clouds, flanked by famille jaune porcelain knob finials with polychrome enameled five claw dragons and phoenix decoration, height: 93", width: 26 3/4".   

Condition:

Paper is dry and has darkened, foxing spots scattered throughout, creases and warped with lightly worn edges, reversing to lower tape adhesion to silk border. The silk border has some expected worn edges, creases, small spots and is mounted on a rice paper backing. The porcelain knob finials have normal wear, surface buildup and left finial is cracked.
