A NAPOLEON III GILT AND PATINATED BRONZE FIGURAL MANTLE CLOCK, BY GAUTIER, PARIS, THIRD QUARTER 19TH CENTURY,

nicely cast with a figure of the goddess Aphrodite gazing pensively downwards and wearing long classical robes while holding a lyre in her lap and seated on a monopodia stool, on a rectangular black marble panel above a reeded cavetto and paired scrolls frieze, over a gilt circular dial with white enamel plaques centering blue Roman chapters, enclosing a "C" scrolls detailed face with blued steel hands and twin key escapements over two banners inscribed "GAUTIER / a Paria," within a pierced bezel of tendril vine entwined strapwork set within a black marble block form case and flanked by scrolling foliate bracket mounts, verso the brass eight-day clock mechanism stamped "E. AIZELIN," interior mounted with an octagonal metal plaque stamped "DES FOSSIS DU TEMPLE / MUDESSE, / MARBRIER / BREVETE / PARIS," over a base of continuous paired "C" details modeled in relief and trimmed in beading, raised on a conforming plinth with reticulated blossoming scrolls cast feet.
