A MONUMENTAL SÈVRES STYLE GILT BRONZE MOUNTED PARCEL GILT COBALT LIDDED URN WITH SCENES FROM THE WAR OF SPANISH SECESSION, MID/LATE 19TH CENTURY, AFTER THE ORIGINAL FROM 1834 BY JEAN ALAUX (French 1785-1864) , "BATTLE OF VILLAVICIOSA DECEMBER 10, 1710,"

the fruiting finial over a bell shaped cobalt lid with a black flared edge, painted with matte raised scrolling rocaille, flower sprays and lattice, over an anthemia decorated opening and wide gilt flared mouth, above a tapered neck with an oval medallion centering musical instruments and flower sprays within leafy scrolled dotted reserves painted in matte gilt in the chinoiserie taste, above a gilt bronze mounted bead edge, over a large vase with a scene of Louis Joseph de Bourbon, Duke of Vendôme presenting the standards to Phillip V of Spain after victory, on a segmented tapered socle, terminating in a circular foot painted with an oval medallion centering ewer and flower spray within acanthus scrolls, on a shaped square base with a bead edge. Condition:

There is some gilt rubbing and wear with mild losses, possible inpainting to the gilt decoration, an area with a paint splatter, and crazing throughout. The lid may have been replaced, but otherwise in very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
