A MEISSEN FLORAL ENCRUSTED FIGURAL PORCELAIN MANTLE CLOCK ON STAND, MARKED, LATE 19TH CENTURY,
the circular brass and glass hinged bezel opening to a white enamel dial with black Arabic hour and five minute numerals, above polychrome painted floral and reticulated gilt metal scrolling hands over twin key escapements, reversing to brass eight day clockworks numbered 2613 / 48 and with the circular pastille stamped with a medal surrounded by "JAPY FRÈRES ET CIE/ 6 DE MÈD.D'HONNEUR," lacking pendulum, framed by rocaille and colorful tapered blooms beneath a crowned spread winged eagle, before a pierced dome of scrolling strapwork and stylized foliage topped by a seated classical muse representing the musical arts, modeled wearing a long draping robe with scattered gilt stars while playing her trumpet in one hand and the other with quill inscribing musical notes in her open score book, above reticulated sides with applied figures of putti frolicking with a blue Royal orb opposite a figure of a classical goddess with one hand held aloft opposite the other clutching a sprig of flowers, over a scrolling footed base with front centering an Augustus III of Saxony armorial shield of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania within a molded border of shells and rocaille, flanked by a seated mythological goddess wear billowing robes and a standing figure of the god Mars wearing plumed helmet and cuirass, back blue crossed swords mark and incised 452, height: 25", width: 13 1/2", depth: 8 1/2"; together with a Meissen shaped rectangular stand with recessed flat top painted with leafy floral sprigs and various insects, above a front centering a molded "C" scrolled cartouche enclosing a painted blossoming cluster flanked by insects and flower blooms encrusted corners on scrolled feet, back blue crossed swords mark and hand incised "No. 452.," height: 5", width: 14 1/2", depth: 10"; includes one winding key.

  • Condition:
  • Extensively restored throughout with yellowing of restored areas, over painting, gold paint touch ups on some gilt areas, petal/leaf chips, kiln firing cracks, old cracks showing through some restored areas, losses, and surface buildup throughout, clock mechanism lacking pendulum, and hands on dial are loose. The stand has restored areas that have yellowed, normal small scratches from use, some chipped petals and leaves, over painted areas, worn gilding, and surface buildup.
